Staffordshire Pearlware figure of Andromache

pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 9.1ins high, 3.5ins wide, 2.8ins depth.



Staffordshire pearlware figure with a mythological theme which features Andromache next to a pillar with her arms wrapped around a urn, stood on a square base.





Multi-coloured version. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Open bottomed.





This piece represents Andromache weeping over the ashes of Hector. Book reference,'English Earthenware Figures 1740-1840' by Pat Halfpenny, page 249

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good. Some small flakes to left hand, urn and pillar.







Slight wear to her left side.



RESTORATION. Retouching to her face, left elbow, left wrist, green to dress, hair, headband and ground.



















Filled chips to base.
