Staffordshire gilt and white hen on nest tureen
Victorian, circa 1860. 7.7ins high, 8.9ins wide, 6.3ins depth. Staffordshire tureen with cover which features a hen with her eggs, seated on an oval basketweave tureen base. White and gilt version. Dull gilt embellishment.
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Vent holes are present.
Maker's marks to the inside.

Condition
Dish: Good.
Slight wear to rim and interior.
Some rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: staining to the crazing on the rim;
small firing hole to exterior.
RESTORATION. Filled chip to flange.
Cover: Generally good.
A few small paint losses to ground.
Some rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: a couple of shrinkage cracks to tail feathers
and one to flange;
staining to the crazing;
a couple of small firing pits to the left wing.
RESTORATION. Filled chips to flange
and one to the rim.
Stabilised and retouched hairline to both wings.
Retouching to beak.
