Victorian, circa 1860. 23.6ins high, 29.5ins wide, 5.1ins depth.
Staffordshire tureen with cover which features a hen with her seven chicks. One of the chicks is perched on her back,
the others peep out from underneath, resting on a shaped base.
We think they have possibly been matched up together at some stage because they are of significantly different sizes. Multi-coloured version.
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

CONDITION: Dish: Good. Some small flakes around the rim.
KILN EFFECTS: small shrinkage line to the rim;
RESTORATION: retouching to paint losses.
Cover: Good. KILN EFFECTS: a couple of shrinkage cracks to the flange;
