Staffordshire spaniel tobacco jar & cover
Victorian, circa 1880. 5.9ins high, 5.5ins wide, 4.3ins depth.
Staffordshire tobacco jar and cover which features a spaniel's head, stood directly on the ground, no base. Russet and white version.
Bright gilt embellishment. Flatback, decorated only to the front.

Condition
CONDITION: Cover: Good. Slight wear to top of the head.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the interior and reverse;
shrinkage crack to the side of the nose.
RESTORATION. Retouching to russet markings and nose, eyes and chin.
Jar: Good. Rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to the interior base line with associated pops to the glaze;
a piece of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the reverse.
RESTORATION. Filled chips to rim.
Retouching to russet markings.
