Pair Staffordshire rabbits

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 5.5ins (14 cm) high, 10ins (25.5 cm) wide, 3.9ins (10 cm) depth.






 

Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature rabbits eating lettuce leaves, crouched on directly on
the ground, no base.




Black and white version. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse.

Overall: Right facing: Good

Small chip to the lower base edge, not visible when upright



A few tiny paint losses to the rabbits eyebrows and tail



Kiln effects: shrinkage line to the lower base edge

flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front and reverse



a few specks of kiln grit caught in the glaze to the lower base edge



Retouched paint losses to lettuce leaves and flake to right ear



Left facing: Generally good
Kiln effects: notable crazing



flecks of stray coloured glaze to the rabbit's face and reverse of head



 

touch mark to the rabbit's right eye and brow of nose



 

slight glaze run to the black enamel in places



Stabilized and retouched cracks to base, one runs up left side of tail.

Retouched chip to left ear.
