1801 Map of England & Wales Sampler by Elizabeth Colley

George III, dated 1801. 20ins by 16ins wide. 1801 Map Sampler by Elizabeth Colley. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood frame with painted black and gilt surround and rippled old glass.

Fixed to a wood stretcher frame with wood and brown paper.

The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours black, cream, blue, copper, green and pink. Signed and dated 'Eliz. Colley 1801'.

Depicts a map of England and Wales with the counties, and surrounding seas.

CONDITION: Good. A number of small holes.

A few patchy stains.

Minor stitch losses to the text.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
