1846 Welsh Sampler by Mary Roberts

Victorian, dated 1846. 17.25ins by 16.5ins wide. 1846 Sampler by Mary Roberts. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in fine wool on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering floral border.

Colours red, cream, red, greens, pink, orange, brown and black. Signed and dated 'Mary Roberts her Work aged 12 1846'.

A good set of motifs, including Wrexham Church (Wrexham is a town in north Wales, and the church is called St Giles' Church),

a house,

potted flowering plants,

fruit baskets,

birds

and fir trees.

CONDITION: Fair. A number of holes.

A few patchy stains.

Some stitch losses to the motifs and border.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
