1826 House Sampler by Mary Garner

George IV, dated 1826. 25.5ins by 19ins wide. 1826 House Sampler by Mary Garner. Framed in an old maple frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground.

Meandering floral border.

Colours green, cream, blue, copper, white, black and pink.

Verse reads

'Our friend is gone before

To that celestial shore

He hath left his mates behind

He hath all the storms outrod

Found the rest we toil to find

Landed inthe arms of god'.

Signed and dated 'Mary Garner Her Work 1826'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a lady and gent stood either side,

dogs,

birds,

potted flowering plants,

trees, laden with fruit,

stags,

fruit baskets,

two lions stood on the hind legs each under a crown

and fir trees.

CONDITION: Good. Two holes.

A few patchy stains.

No stitch losses, a few loose threads.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
