1837 Map Sampler by Rachel Dixon
William IV, dated 1837. 24ins by 21.5ins wide. 1837 Map sampler by Rachel Dixon.

Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.


Colours black, green, light green, cream, light brown and dark brown. Signed and dated 'Rachel Dixon Anno Domini 1837'.

Depicts a map of England and Wales with part of Ireland, France and surrounding seas.




CONDITION: Good. A few holes.




Three repaired holes.



One patchy stain.

Some stitch losses to 'FRANCE'.

A couple of loose threads.


Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. Very slight colour run around the green threads.

Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
