Holdcroft Majolica heron stick stand

Victorian, circa 1870. 32.9ins high, 12.6ins wide, 13ins depth. Holdcroft Majolica stick or umbrella stand which features a heron stood besides bullrushes with fish in its mouth. Colouration: green, brown, ochre, are predominant.

Condition

Generally good.

Slight wear to the front of base.



KILN EFFECTS: piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing piece to rattle;

thin glaze application to the inside of stand;



shrinkage crack to rim of the stand





and right leg.



RESTORATION: Two bulrushes and leaf behind, reattached.





Remodelled; fish's head,





top section of beak,





tip to lower beak,





tip of right wing (join still slightly visible),



two claws to raised foot,





sections of 3 lily leaves







and tip of one bulrush.



Tip of left wing



and one bulrush leaf reglued and join retouched.



Stabilised and retouched cracks to base (one still slightly visible).
