Victorian, circa 1890. 3.7ins high, 5.3ins wide, 5.3ins depth. Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica cup & saucer which features overlapping cabbage leaves, with a snake forming the handle. Colouration: green, grey, cream, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.

Cup: Good. No restoration. Chip to one stilt mark.
Bruise to the rim.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the interior; glaze run to the interior
and base rim.
Saucer: Good. No restoration. Small chips to glaze accumulation only to the foot rim.
Small flakes to the rim.
KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;
flecks of stray coloured glaze to the interior;
glaze accumulation to the underside;
foot rim is slightly mishapen causing it to rock a little when placed on a flat surface. Go
