Mafra Majolica Palissy cabbage leaf cup & saucer

Victorian, circa 1890. 3.5ins high, 5.3ins wide, 5.3ins depth. Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica cup & saucer which features cabbage leaves with a snake handle. Colouration: green, grey, cream, are predominant.













The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.

Cup: Generally good.

Tiny flake to rim.



KILN EFFECTS: glaze run to interior;



and foot rim.



RESTORATION: Retouched rim flake.



Two filled chips to foot rim.





Saucer: Generally good.

Tiny flake to rim.



Small flake to well rim.



Very slight wear to interior.



KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to interior;



glaze accumulation to foot rim causing the saucer to stand unevenly;



flecks of stray coloured glaze to interior.



RESTORATION. Filled chip to rim





and three to the foot rim.
