Large Mafra Majolica Palissy cabbage sugar pot & cover
Victorian, circa 1890. 7.4ins high, 7.5ins wide, 7.5ins depth. Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica sugar bowl which features a cabbage head with a snake coiled around the stem.
Colouration: green, grey, ochre, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.

CONDITION: Pot: Good.
Small chip to bowl rim.
KILN EFFECTS: touch mark to one leaf edge;
glaze accumulation to the leaves
and lower base edge;
glaze run to the base;
flecks of stray coloured glaze to the leaves.
RESTORATION. Two leaves reglued and joins retouched.
