Minton Majolica Palissy style desk stand with inkwell
Victorian, circa 1860. 3.5ins high, 14.2ins wide, 8.3ins depth. Minton Majolica desk stand which features a lizard either side and a snake coiled around a central inkwell.
Colouration: cobalt blue, green, brown, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery.
Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1858.

Condition
CONDITION: Generally good.
Flake to underside of snake on the reverse.
Some wear to interior.
KILN EFFECTS: glaze accumulation to the under rim;
a couple of specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the interior;
craze lines to the interior of the inkwell;
small glaze flakes to inkwell.
RESTORATION. Filled chip to rim of inkwell.
Stabilized and retouched crack to right side of inkwell.
Restored crack to the rim on the left side of the stand this runs across lizard's tail.
Stabilized hairline to the rim at the front of the stand.
