Mafra Majolica Palissy fish & eel wall plate

Victorian, circa 1890. 7ins high, 7ins wide, 0.2ins depth. Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall plate which features three fish, an eel and mussels on shredded clay.
Colouration: green, ochre, brown, are predominant.





The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.

Good.

Some flakes to the shredded clay.





Slight wear to the rim,





to two fish and eel's back.









Some wear to the foot rim.







KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to centre fish





and eel.



RESTORATION. Filled chip to eel's tail



and tip of one fish's tail fin.



Retouching to mussels.
