Staffordshire Pottery Figure of Captain James Cook

Victorian, circa 1860. 7.1ins high, 4.3ins wide, 4.4ins depth. Staffordshire Pottery figure with a maritime theme which features Captain James Cook, seated on a shaped base.

Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated only to the front.

Vent hole to the underside.

This piece represents an original painting by Nathaniel Dance R.A., now hung in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, England.

Condition

CONDITION: Very good. KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the face;

a few specks of kiln soot caught in the glaze to the base.

Some stained crazing to the reverse.

RESTORATION. Filled chip to right thumb.
