Antique Miniature Sampler,'the gift is small'

George III, circa 1800. 4.1ins high, 3.9ins wide, 0.8ins deep. Georgian Miniature Sampler,'the gift is small'.

The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch.

Zig zag border. Colours green, brown and silver.

Inscription reads, 'the gift is small'.

A scattering of motifs, including peacocks,

birds, potted flowering plants, a fruit basket

and crowns.

Framed in a modern, gilt over wood frame with glass.

Mounting: The sampler is stitched to calico slip over mountboard acid free card. Frame backed with card and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few stain specks.

No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in good condition, has small filled chip in bottom left corner, but ready to hang.
