Miniature Antique Sampler, 1824, Eliza Knowles

George IV, dated 1824. 4.1ins high, 4ins wide, 0.4ins deep. Regency period Antique Sampler, 1824, Eliza Knowles. The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours black, green and brown.

Verse reads, 'O may it be our highest aim, To choose the path that's right, Let virtue ore our actions reign, And guide our feet arright.'.

Signed and dated 'Eliza Knowles. July 17th 1824'.

A scattering of motifs, including potted flowering plants and a dog.

Framed in an old wood frame with glass.

Mounting: The sampler is glued to board. Frame backed with card and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Generally good. A couple of small freys/holes to the backing.

No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

The sampler is glued to it's backing board and therefore might be difficult to remove if remounting is intended.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
