The sampler is worked in silk thread on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch.

Repeating triangles border.

Stitched in red throughout. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-20.

Signed and dated, 'Martha Jordan 1787'.

A scattering of crown motifs.

Framed in an old, black, ebonised wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Mounting: The sampler is stitched to acid free card. Frame backed with paper and sealed with tape.

The backing paper is taken from the original envelope that the sampler was found in. It has hand written script, 'For My beloved Martha with much Love ?'

CONDITION: Very Good. No holes. A few light patchy stains which are barely noticable given the small size of the sampler.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
