The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Colours green, cream, blue, light brown, gold, black, red and pale blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-10.
Inscriptions read, 'They thAt Sow in teARS ShAll Reap in Joy'. And, 'Let me Die the Death Of The RIGhTeous AND LeT MY LAST enD Be LIKe his'.
Signed and dated, 'Ann Newcome heR Sampler June 1723'.
A scattering of motifs, including crowns, birds, flowers and a fruit basket.
Framed in an old wood frame with glass.
Mounting: The sampler is fixed to board. Frame backed with cardboard and sealed with tape.
CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes. A number of patchy stains.
No stitch losses. One colour very faded making it difficult to read the signature.
No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
