JFS Palissy Majolica Snake & Lizards Wall Plate

Circa 1890. 8.9ins high, 8.9ins wide, 2.6ins depth. Jose Francisco de Sousa Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall plate which features a snake, a lizard and a lizard hiding in a burrow.

Colouration: green, grey, yellow, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Jose Francisco de Sousa pottery.

CONDITION: Good. RESTORATION. Two filled chips to the rim.

Retouched flake to lizards neck.

Filled chip to foot rim on reverse.
