
Victorian, circa 1870. 12.2ins high, 8.3ins wide, 5.9ins depth. Copeland Majolica bust which features head and shoulders of a woman on a bed of leaves. Sits on a socle base.
Colouration: white, turquoise, green, are predominant.
This piece represents Clytie the water nymph, daughter of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys in Greek mythology. She was one of the 3,000 Oceanids.
CONDITION: Very Good. No restoration. Small, stable, inconspicuous bruise to reverse, on green leaves.
KILN EFFECTS: thin glaze application to join between chest and her robe.
Similar, where hair rests on her shoulders;
a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the base.
