Minton Majolica Cellini Ewer & Stand

Victorian, circa 1866. 14.6ins high, 10.9ins wide, 10.9ins depth. Minton Majolica ewer and stand with a mythological theme which features putti, birds and vine fruits.

The ewer has a tapered neck, with mask head and gryphon handle.

Sits on circular fluted foot.

Colouration: brown, green, blue, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, '472'. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1866.

Cellini refers to the very famous 16th Century Italian, Benvenuto Cellini, who is renowned for originally designing this classic style of ewer.

Condition

CONDITION: Ewer: Generally Good. Small, shallow, inconspicuous chip to the bird wing.

KILN EFFECTS: faint shrinkage line through handle.

RESTORATION. Filled chip to leaf on handle.

Griffin head reglued and join retouched.

Foot reglued and join retouched.

Stand: Good. Scratch to the blue.

RESTORATION. Filled chip to the underside of the rim, with associated stabilised hairline to upper rim.
