George IV, dated 1821. 4.6ins high, 4.5ins wide, 0.6ins deep. Miniature Scottish Sampler, stitched in 1821, by Margaret Gibson aged 10.

The sampler is worked in a brown cotton-like thread on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch.

Simple line border. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10.

Signed and dated, 'Margaret Gibson Aged ten Years May 5th Montrose. Eighteen Hundred twenty one'.

Placename Montrose is a town in Scotland.

Framed in an old, possibly original, wood veneer frame with rippled, old glass.

Mounting: The sampler is loose mounted onto card.

Frame backed with paper and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes.

Patchy staining, particularly around the outside.

No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
