Antique Sampler, 1828, by Lucy Newson

George IV, dated 1828. 12.2ins high, 12.2ins wide, 1.4ins deep. Regency Sampler, 1828, by Lucy Newson.

The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch.

Meandering floral strawberry border.

Colours green, light brown, silver, blue and dark brown.

Signed and dated, 'Lucy Newson Aged 12 Years 1828'.

A scattering of motifs, including birds,

fruit baskets,

fruit trees

and stars.

Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Mounting: The sampler is loose mounted onto card. Frame backed with wood, then paper and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Good. A few small inconspicuous holes.

No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.

No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame showing wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
