The sampler is worked in silk on a linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours green, blue, gold and silver.

Signed and dated 'Sarah Mitchell 1845'.

A good set of motifs, including a large fruit basket, butterflies and leaves.

Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Mounting: The sampler is stitched to board. Frame backed with brown paper and sealed with tape.

 

CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
