
George IV, dated 1824. 15.6ins high, 12ins wide, 0.9ins deep. 1824 Sampler by Mary Richards aged 13.
The sampler is finely worked in silk on a linen ground. Meandering strawberry border.
Colours black, blue, green, gold, silver, brown and pink.
Signed and dated, 'Mary Richards Finished This March 18th 1824 Aged 13 Years'.
A wonderful set of motifs, the main subject being a scene with a boy sat on the back of a dog.
Either side are trees and swans on a pond.
Other motifs including fir trees, crowns, dogs and potted flowering plants.
Framed in an old, burr maple frame with glass.
Mounting: The sampler is stitched to a wood stretcher frame. Frame backed with brown paper and sealed with tape.
CONDITION: Good. One hole to the mid-left.
A few holes along the bottom edge from where original mounting tacks have been removed.
No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
Very slight colour in the bottom left corner.
Stretching is slightly uneven in places. Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
