Large Minton Majolica Exotic 'Indian' Vase

Victorian, circa 1873. 21.9ins high, 9.8ins wide, 9.8ins depth Minton Majolica vase which features exotic birds, a butterfly, peonies, lotus flowers and dragon handles.

This pattern is catalogued by Minton as 'Indian'. Minton blue ground version.

Colouration: green, blue, ochre, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, '202'. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1873.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally Good. Small flakes to the butterfly.

Small flakes to flower.

Small flakes to the dragon handles.

Large flake underneath dragon handle.

KILN EFFECTS: firing crack to the handle;

glaze run in places;

small firing pits in places, on the blue ground.

RESTORATION. Retouching to the blue ground, around the neck of the vase, just above the handles (only present to exterior of the vase).

Retouching to the ochre around the rim of the vase.

Retouching to the brown, below birds on one side.

Three filled chips to the lower base edge.
