Minton Majolica 'Naturalist' Jardiniere by W.S Coleman

Victorian, circa 1872. 9.4ins high, 14.6ins wide, 14.6ins depth. Minton Majolica jardinière which features illustrated flora and fauna, including: a partridge, corn & barley, swallows, a bee, a bullfinch on a blossoming branch and flowers.

Artist and designer, William Stephen Coleman, was paid £200 by Minton for the designs on the 'Naturalist' service, which this jardiniere features.

Colouration: white, turquoise, pink, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, '1445'. English diamond registration mark for the date 18/03/1870. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1872.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally Good. Some wear and slight staining to interior from use.

KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to some of the illustrations and to the base rim.

RESTORATION. Three filled chips to the lower base rim.

Three stabilised and retouched hairlines to the rim.

Once still visible (but stabilised) on close inspection.
