
Georgian, circa 1800. 4.2ins high, 4.1ins wide, 0.9ins deep Miniature sampler by Frances Gill, worked in silk on a very fine ground in a variety of stitches.
Colours green, gold, pink, cream and red. Inscription reads 'Please to Accept this sMall trifle'.
A good selection of motifs, including hearts, flowers, fruit baskets, blossoming trees, crosses, and pairs of birds.
Original wood frame, early 19th century, with rippled, pitted, old glass.
Mounting: The sampler is tacked to a wood panel which serves also as the backboard, sealed with tape.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains other than a few pale stain specs and slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
No stitch losses. Colours all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing slight wear, but strong and sound and ready to hang
