George II, dated 1736. 11.9ins high, 8.9ins wide, 0.5ins deep Antique Sampler, 1736, by Katharin Days.

The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on a linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Simple line border. Colours red, silver, blue and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-9.

Verses read, 'REMEMBER NOW THY CREATOR IN THE DAYS OF THY YOUTH AND WHILE THE EVIL DAYS COME NOT NOR THE YEARS DRAW NIGH WHEN THOU SHALL SAY I HAVE NO PLEASURE IN THEM. And, 'WISDOM IS BETTER THAN RUBIES AND ALL THE THINGS THAT MAY BE DESIRED ARE NO TO BE COMPARED TO IT THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS TO HATE EVIL PRIDE AND ARROGANCE AND THE EVIL WAY AND THE FROWARD MOUTH DO I HATE.'. Family names, 'DAVID DAYS KATHAR???? DAVID DAYS WILLAM DAYS ???'. Final verse reads, 'THE WISE SHALL INHERIT GLORY BUT SHAME SHALL BE THE PROMOTION OF FOOLS.

Signed and dated, 'KATHARIN DAYS HER WORK DUND OCTOBER THE 6 DAY IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1736'.

Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. The sampler is loose mounted between two sheets of glass, so the reverse of the sampler is also visible.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A few small holes.

No stains. No stitch losses.. Colours are all good and strong with only slight fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
