c.1797 Darning Sampler

Late 18thC, circa 1797. 17.7ins high, 11.6ins wide, 1.8ins deep. Circa 1797 Darning Sampler.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Colours green, pink and gold.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-22.

No signature or date. A wonderful set of darning panels, finely embroidered.

Crowns at the bottom with initials. Framed in an old, possibly original, mahogany frame with rippled, old glass.

Mounting: The sampler is stitched to board. Frame backed with wooden board.

CONDITION: Very Good. No holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses.

A couple of small 'pulls' to the threads.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
