The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours greens, cream, yellow, pale blue, gold, browns and black.
Verse reads,
'Tell me ye knowing and Difcerning few
Where I may find A friend both firm and true
Who dares stand by me when in deep Diftrefs
And then his Love and friendship most exprefs'.
Signed,

A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden,
a gentleman,
dogs,
birds,
stags,
trees,
thistles,
potted flowering plants,
butterflies,
diamonds and crowns.
Framed in a modern white frame with gilded highlights. Mounting: The sampler is stitched to linen mount which is tacked to a wood stretcher frame.
Frame backed with brown paper.
CONDITION: Good. A few holes to the bottom right corner.
Some slight staining to the left side.
Minor stitch losses and a couple of loose threads to a few of the motifs.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
