
Circa 1890. 9.8ins high, 9.8ins wide, 3.9ins depth. Jose A Cunha Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall plate which features a snake attacking a lizard in a burrow.
Surrounded by a butterfly, grubs, a worm, a lizard and a beetle. Colouration: green, ochre, blue, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Jose A Cunha pottery.
CONDITION: Good. KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to snakes back.
RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched crack to footrim on underside.
Filled chips to beetle's legs and moth's head.
Remodelled tip to lizard's tail.
