The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours greens, cream, yellow, pale blue, gold, brown and black.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-25
Inscription reads,
'Praise the Lord'.
Verse reads,
'Jesus permit thy Gracious name to stand
At the first efforts of an infants Hand
And while her Fingers on the Canvas move
Engage her tender mind to seek thy Love
With thy Dear children let her have a part
And write thy name thyself upon her Heart'.
Signed and dated,
'Jane Waters her Work Finished March 14th 1825'.
A good set of motifs, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk,
birds,
angels,
flowers, potted flowering plants,
fir trees,
stags
and butterflies.
Framed in an black, ebonised wood frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is fixed to paper and card. Frame backed with wood.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
A few small holes and some losses to the top and bottom edges.

Stain to the top left corner.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
