
William IV, dated 1837. 15.7ins high, 11.4ins wide, 0.8ins deep. 1837 Antique Sampler by Mary Peckham Age 9.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours greens, cream, yellow, dark brown, pink and black.
Verse reads,
'Guide blessed Lord my erring feet.
Into the way of truth
And let thy word in counsel sweet
Direct my heedless youth
To thy kind care may I resign
My childhood's earliest hours
And grane oh Lord, by grace divine,
My heart may feel thy pow'r
May gladly own my Saviour's sway
And find' tis Heaven to obey'.
Signed and dated,
'Maria Peckham finished this Sampler May 6th 1837 in the 9th Year of her Age'.
A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants, flowers,
fir trees,
crown,
oak leaves and acorns
and birds.
Framed in a wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounting: The sampler is stretched over card.
Frame backed with brown paper.
CONDITION: Very Good. No holes.
No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
No stitch losses.
Colours are good and strong.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
