The sampler is worked in fine wool on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
No border, divider lines in various patterns.
Colours pinks, red, yellow, green, purples and blues.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10.
Verse reads,
'Neglect Not Thou Thy
Doing Well, But Strive
In Vertue to Excell'.
Signed and dated, '1739 Elizabeth Keeling Sampler done in the 10th year of her Age Oct 13'.
A scattering of motifs, including a heart, crowns and diamonds.
Framed in a black ebonised wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounting: The sampler is fixed to card. Frame backed with chipboard and brownpaper.
CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes. No stains.
Some stitch losses to the divider lines, the signature and letters/numbers.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
