George III, dated 1765. 10.2ins high, 7.9ins wide, 0.4ins deep. 1765 Norfolk Sampler by Hannah Humphrey.

The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Divider lines in various patterns.

Colours blue, yellow, light brown, copper, greens and cream.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case, vowels, numbers 1-9, and family initials (including a name, 'Ann Buxton').

Verse reads,

'Hannah Humphrey Is My Name

and With My Needle I Work

The Same and By My Work

You May Plainly See What

Care My Parents Took With

Mee'.

Dated '1765' and '8 Oct'.

Placename 'Filby' is a town in Norfolk, England.

A few motifs including potted flowering plants,

birds,

baskets,

diamonds and crowns.

Framed in a wood frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is tacked to board.

Frame backed with brown paper.

CONDITION: Good. No holes.

Two patchy stains.

No stitch losses.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
