The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours red, cream, light brown, greens and gold.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case.
Verse from 'The Hermit' by Thomas Parnell reads,
'Far in a wild unknown to
public view From youth to
age a revrend hermit grew
Remote From man with God he
passd his days prayr all his business
all his pleasure praise'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including two guards standing eitherside of a temple,
a couple with their young daughter,
a small child hiding in a tree house,
dogs,
flowers,
potted flowering plants,
stags,
birds
and fir trees.
Framed in a wood frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is loose mounted onto paper.
Frame backed with wood.
CONDITION: Fair.
A number of holes.
No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground.
Some stitch losses to the border, divider lines, the signature, and motifs.
Colours are all good and strong.
Slight colour run to the green in the top left.
Unevenly stretched, causing some wrinkling of the ground.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
