
William IV, dated 1834. 22.5ins by 24.5 ins wide. 1834 Sampler by Mary Ann Livingstone.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border. Colours green, cream, blue, copper, gold, orange, brown and black.
Verse reads
'Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand
As the first effort of an infants hand
And while her fingers o'er this canvas move
Engage her tender heart to seek thy Love
With the dear children let her share a part.
And write thy Name thyself upon her
heart'.
Signed and dated 'Mary Ann Livingston April 30th 1834'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden, birds, trees, two shepherdess' with their sheep and a peacock.
Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Tacked to a wood stretcher frame with a card backing.
CONDITION: Good. A few holes.
A few pale stain specks.
Some broken stitches to the motifs.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
