
Victorian, circa 1860. 8.3ins high, 3.5ins wide, 2.6ins depth. Staffordshire Pottery bottle/flask with a political theme which features a man holding a scroll entitled, 'WHITE SLAVERY', stood directly on the ground, no base.
The piece is titled, 'OASTLER' .
Dull gilt embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.
Hole to the top of the head.
This piece represents Richard Oastler, known also as the, 'Factory King'. He was an industrial reformer
who was part responsible for the Ten Hours Act of 1847 which was for the reduction of working hours.
He then went on to campaign against the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act.
CONDITION: Good.
A few paint losses to hair and base rim.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
Slight wear to front and reverse.
RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched crack to neck.
