Pair Staffordshire No.1 black & white Spaniels

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 12.6ins high, 9.1ins wide, 3.9ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire Pottery dogs which feature a spaniel,

seated directly on the ground, no base.

Black and white version.

Dull gilt embellishment. Flatback, decorated only to the front.

Vent hole to the reverse.

Maker's marks no.1 molded into the underside.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good.

Small flake to tail and back of head.

Slight rubbing to gilt.

KILN EFFECTS: touch mark to left paw;

shrinkage line to left leg and reverse of tail.

RESTORATION. Retouched paint losses dog's face and paws.

Left facing: Good.

Slight rubbing to gilt.

KILN EFFECTS: thin glaze application to some of the markings;

touch mark to the reverse;

firing crack to top of the muzzle and also to front right leg;

flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front and reverse.

RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched crack to the underside of the tail.

Retouched paint losses to face and paws.
