English Majolica Owls & Squirrel Vase

Victorian, circa 1870. 12.8ins high, 7.9ins wide, 7.9ins depth. Brown Westhead Moore & Co Majolica vase which features two owls perched on a tree stump, watching a squirrel. The owls are superbly modelled.

Colouration: brown, green, cream, are predominant.

Bears a pattern number, '1424 6'.

We believe the piece was modelled by the famous sculptor, Mark V Marshall, whilst he was in employment at the Brown Westhead Moore & Co factory.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good. KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze.

RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched crack to both wings on upper owl.

Filled chip to feathers.

One ear to upper owl reglued and joins retouched.

Lower owl reglued and join retouched around the feet.

Filled chip to left ear.

Squirrel's head reglued and joins retouched.

Remodelled right ear.

Stabilised and retouched crack to base and underside.
