The sampler is worked in wool and silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours green, cream, red, yellow, black, brown and blue. Numbers 1-9.
Verse reads,
'Look here and you may see
The care my parents took
For me honour God both
Young and old love God
And love not Gold'.
Signed and dated,
'Mary Routh Her work Aged 7 Years Finished October in the Year of our Lord 1838'.
A good set of motifs, including Solomon's Temple,
dogs,
potted flowering plants,
squirrels,
fir trees,
fruit baskets
and birds.
Framed in an old wood frame, with gilt slip and glass.
Stitched to linen with board backing.
CONDITION: Good.
A few small tack holes to extreme outer edge.
A few stains.
No stitch losses.
Colours strong and bright.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
