
George III, dated 1803. 16ins high by 12.5ins wide. Antique Scottish Sampler, 1803, By Jannet Anderson. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with glass.
Fixed to linen with wood backing.
The sampler is finely worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border. Colours red, cream, light brown, greens and blue.
Verse reads,
'CLASPD IN MY
HEAVNLY
FATHERS ARMS
I WOULD
FORGET MY
BREATH AND
LOS MY LIFE
AMONG THE
CHARMS OF SO
DVINE A DEATH'.
Family initials. Signed and dated 'Iannet Anderson Her work Aged 10 1803'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including a lady and a gentleman standing in front of a large house, a lion, dogs, birds, angels, flowers, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, fir trees, Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk, a key and a cockerel
CONDITION: Generally Good. A few holes, and losses to the ground.
No stains. Some stitch losses to the holed areas and to the two large flower motifs.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
