
Victorian, dated 1845. 15.75 11.25ins wide. Antique Sampler, 1845, By Hannah Sims. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Tacked to board.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours brown, green, copper, cream and white. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case.
Verse is Isaac Watts Song 20: "Against Idleness and Mischief". It reads,
'In books or work or healthful play
Let my first years be past
That I may give for every day
Some good account at last'.
Signed and dated, 'Hannah Sims. August 4. 1845. Aged 9 Years'.
A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden, fruit baskets, trees, crowns, birds and butterflies.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few pale stains.
No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
