Antique Whitework Sampler dated 1664, By Mary Hooper

Charles II, dated 1664. 11.5ins 8ins wde. Whitework Band Sampler. Framed in an old wood frame with glass.

Stitched to card. Alphabets A-Z in upper case.

Worked in silk thread with a variety of stitches and whitework techniques including cut and drawn work.

Floral and geometric bands and joined panels.

Signed and dated 'MARY HOOPER 1664'.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A hole in the bottom right.

Another hole middle top.

Very old, rust-stained tack holes around the edges.

Possibly a fragment, because the top edge is cut off through the cut and drawn work band. However, the stained tack holes along the top indicate that it has been mounted in its current state for a very long time.

A few pale stain specks.

Minor stitch losses to the patterned panels.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
