Antique Miniature Sampler, 1829, by Maria Mathew

George IV, dated 1829. 6ins high by 6ins wide. Eliza Matthew Memorial Sampler by Maria. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with glass.

Attached to card. Wood backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering floral border and divider lines in various patterns.

Colours pink, blue, light brown, green and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-4.

Inscription reads,

'Eliza Mathew Born Janry 7th 1817

Died Augst 28ht 1828.'.

Signed,

'Maria. Stowlangtoft'. Stowlangtoft is a village in Suffolk, England.

CONDITION: Generally good.

No holes.

Two pale stain specks.

No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong.

No colour run.

Frame showing slight wear and chips, but structurally sound.
