Early 17thC, dated 1690. 14.5ins high by 9ins wide. 1690 Band Sampler by Dorothy Musgrave. Framed in an old wood frame with glass
to the front and also to the reverse so it can be viewed from both sides.
Loose mounted.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
No border, divider lines in various patterns.
Colours navy blue, green, pale blue, white, pink, orange, dark brown and grey.
Signed and dated
'Dorothy Musgrave 1690'.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
One stain speck.
Minor stitch losses to the end of one of the bands.
Colours are slightly faded to one side, but in bright, original condition on the other.
No colour run.
Slightly unevenly mounted.
Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
