Onnaing Majolica cockerel pitcher

Circa 1900. 8.5ins high. Onnaing Majolica novelty figural pitcher modeled as a cockerel. On its left side is a shield inscribed 'CHANTE CLAIR POUR LA FRANCE'



and a scroll on its right side inscribed 'LE GAULOIS'.







Magenta interior.



Dark ochre underside with impressed maker's marks.




Condition

Good. No cracks. No hairlines. No flakes.

Small bruise to comb.



Kiln effects: ochre glaze run to the exterior,





two firing pits to comb.



Old restoration of beak and tongue.
